New stage for Candlelight Jazz. Jazz4Kids. UNCOMMON festival
As we prepare for the 2011 Candlelight Jazz Concert Series to begin, we're so grateful to the City of Augusta and Downtown Development Authority for using SPLOST funds to replace the stage we've used for years. Those who've performed know what a challenge it was to play on that stage while wobbling back and forth on those platforms. HOWEVER..The new stage is a bit smaller, but a lot safer. The power source is just a few feet away, and there's no danger of tripping over long power cables. They also added a few picnic tables and swings. Thanks Augusta. We anticipate that the bulkhead area will be used more often now that it's a little more picturesque. Artist Lineup complete - Click here
Karen Gordon has developed a series of jazz activities designed for kids aged 5-10 called Jazz4Kids: sing. clap. wiggle. shake. It's a 45-minute interactive introduction to jazz music for the young and young at heart - just as the title suggests, it'll get your heart pumping. She is presenting them at Aiken, Columbia and Richmond county libraries and features a jazz-themed children's book at each presentation. Visit her blog http://gardencityjazz.wordpress.com for complete schedule.
The Labor Day weekend UNCOMMON jazzfestival is taking shape as well. We'll announce the headliner in late May and offer special advance tickets and sponsor packages. Last year our headliner was Niki Haris. Please bookmark the webpage and Facebook & Twitter pages check back regularly for updates.
