Jazz on Pine, a public-private partnership between the Heritage Pine Neighborhood Association, Garden City Jazz, and Augusta Housing & Community Development, was such a success for the residents and visitors of the community that organizers decided to add three more concerts to the 2013 series.
The series has grown to include nine monthly events, starting first Saturdays in March 2014 and continuing through November. The event has been re-branded to reflect more diverse musical offerings, including blues, soul, and contemporary gospel; as well as a visual arts component. It is now called “Sunset Music & Arts at Heritage Pine.”
“What’s most rewarding is the sense of community I witness at each concert – it feels like a family reunion. Children ride bikes through the park, homeowners set food and drink on their porches and invite any and all to partake. I’m excited to see this area restored to its former glory and so many coming home to Laney Walker,” Karen Gordon, director of Garden City Jazz, said.
